Pans influence!

Ever since I watched Hellboy I have been interested in the works of Guillermo Del Toro and his charming style of mixing fantasy and reality and no film of his is as accomplished as the film Pans Labyrinth with it's nightmarish slant on fairy tales, folklore and legends. It is this film that sparked the idea of researching myths and fairies to aid in the development of my work, not just in narrative but more importantly in the actual design of the creatures that hunt our player. It is a truly brilliant film and i would recommend that if you have not seen it grab a copy (preferably in HD) and prepare to be enchanted and horrified by both the people and the creatures that inhabit Ofelia's world.

From this movie I think that more than one idea can be taken and implemented into a nightmarish game, the first is the young girl living out this strange series of terrifying events in order to reach a destiny (you the player would not play the young girl but the adult trying to help her)and the second as i previously mentioned is the fairytale inspiration.

These core elements have added clarity to my vision and have allowed me have more direction in my future design choices.
