The darker side of fairies....
Before the Victorians turned them into sweetened tales for children the whole mythology behind them is quite dark with children abductions, children getting eaten and tales of mischief and warning about the unknown. Recently Guillermo del Toro took his influences from Pans Labyrinth into the mainstream Hollywood with Hellboy 2, this is a clip of my favorite creature form the film and one that does a good job of turning the whole innocence thing on it's head. The Tooth Fairy is not what you expect after the sweetened tales you had heard when you were growing up an placing your milk teeth under teh pillow to exchange it for some money, this little creature may look sweet but his premise is quite nasty and in a way reminds me of Piranha fish. The design is also nice taking into account the insect influences such as Locust but this time they have a thirst for calcium and bone (hence their name) and a hunger that never seems to quell, watch this clip to see what I mean....
